Whose up for some gossip then?:D Today was an afternoon well spent not just gossiping with my old school friends, but also at a cafe that happens to be called Gossip Cafe & Desserts. Catchy name isn’t it? That’s what actually tempted me to try out the place at Box Park (Dubai), as I was initially headed somewhere else. Well, I’m certainly glad I did, coz it ticked all the boxes I look out for when visiting a cafe … Ambience? Very cosy .. Friendly staff? Definitely .. Helpful staff? Very … Dessert variety? Gained calories just by going through the options … Dessert taste? Deeelicious, or at least the Date & Toffee Pudding I tried definitely was … Pricey? Just a tad, but certainly not if you’re sharing the dessert .. Will I go back again? For sure! Still have to try their ‘Ultimate Dessert’ which the staff highly recommended! It’s not just desserts by the way, as they have other options too for the ones with the missing sweet tooth ;). So fix a date with your besties and stay up to date with all the gossip at Gossip Cafe & Desserts located at Box Park, Dubai.
And I’m back!! How’s it going everyone? Apologies for the silent treatment the last few weeks, but had family and friends visiting recently and I went into complete lazy mode after they left. My friends have been nagging me the whole time to get back on baking track but I just wasn’t finding that inspiration anywhere to snap out of this phase … that was up until I came across a brilliant cafe yesterday that did the trick and made me want to bake again …
I’m referring to Spontiphoria Cafe on Wasl Square in Dubai. This cafe was truly love at first sight for me .. it was very bright and welcoming, and had such a cosy set up and ‘feel good’ factor, it almost felt like walking into the brightest room of your house! Spontiphoria is the first of its kind in Dubai as it’s actually a boutique as well a bakery. I was there to attend a Basic Baking Demo session yesterday which my friend had luckily signed me up for (and will probably expect baked goodies in return now as a thank you). I was greeted by the friendly owner, Sidiqa Sohail, and it was great to speak to someone who also has a strong passion for baking and had come such a long way to set up a wonderful cafe that had obviously become a crowd favourite by many.
As I waited for the demo to start, I flicked through the menu which was an absolute treat! They have so much to offer be it breakfast, snacks or simply desserts. The sandwiches they offer as snacks looked quite interesting as they were named after different cities worldwide. They served mini chutney sandwiches as the nibbles during the demo, and they were absolutely delicious! Definitely ordering those again when I visit next. But the part that stood out for me the most, was the section named ‘Dessert as meals!’ … and I do not joke, when I say there was a ‘Chocolate Burger’ on that menu as well! Now that is a dream come true for chocoholics like me! But as I was there for the demo, I had to behave, and decided to save digging in to all the wonderful treats at Spontiphoria for my next visit. It didn’t stop me from tasting their best seller ‘Salted Caramel Brownies’ though …. yummylicious!
The baking demo in itself was very informative. It was a good turnout, and everyone absolutely loved icing their own mini cupcakes towards the end. Spontiphoria does host many events throughout the year, so make sure you visit their Facebook page www.facebook.com/spontiphoria to keep track of it all.
My overall experience at Spontiphoria was an excellent one! I’ve always had a soft corner for cafe’s with the ‘home-made’ feel to it, and Spontiphoria definitely ticks that box. I’ve already made plans with friends to visit Spontiphoria again soon and will keep you posted on all the new goodies I try out. In the meantime, make sure you make your way there too and you’ll see what I meant about the ‘feel good’ factor.
Thank you Spontiphoria team for the wonderful experience!
News Flash: discovered a really nice place for breakfast at Taste Kitchen in Mercato Mall, Dubai. Popped in for breakfast the other day and really enjoyed their ‘Home baked Granola with Whipped Yogurt and Mixed Fruit’ … Had no idea using freshly whipped Greek Yogurt could make such a difference to the dish! Will be going there again soon for lunch, which is when I’ll do my proper review of the place … and judging by the number of people who were walking in at the time, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed! Give it a try!
The holiday season is almost here … that time of the year when the wallets shrink but waists expand! After having done a shopping marathon at Dubai Mall today, I was absolutely starving by lunch time! But I knew exactly where to order lunch from today… Thai Wok! If you haven’t tried out Thai Wok yet then you’re missing out on some real good food at a very reasonable price considering the generous portions they serve! Although their menu had quite a few tempting lunch combo deals to offer, I had to look no further once I came across their ‘Stir Fried Heaven’. And here’s the best part, I was done placing the order within minutes, without even going through the hassle of dialling a number, waiting for someone to answer and then placing my order! Although they do offer that option, but there’s also a much easier ‘online option’ to order. So all you have to do is sign up for an account, choose your meal exactly the way you want it, a few clicks here and there, and that’s it! But the royalty treatment doesn’t just end there, as within minutes there is someone calling you from Thai Wok, to confirm your order and to let you know how long they will take to deliver! Now for me as a customer, these little things count for a lot as the number one priority for any restaurant should be to make sure a customer is their top-priority. So thank you very much for that Thai Wok. Wait there’s more …. keep reading! 🙂
Moving on, the food arrived bang on time (another tick for punctuality) and did not even need to be re-heated. In fact I was quite surprised to read afterwards that Thai Wok is actually based in Al Barsha, so it wasn’t exactly near to where I was, but the food still didn’t arrive cold, which is a problem that I have with a quite a few delivery places here, as they just don’t taste the same after being re-heated (another tick for being considerate). The aroma of the ‘Stir Fried Heaven’ was divine, and I couldn’t wait to dig in, but could I? Of course not! Coz I had to take pictures for you guys first to give you my priority .. haha! They say looks can be deceiving, but certainly not in this case, as the ’Stir Fried Heaven’ tasted as good as it looked. The meal included a chicken spring roll, egg fried rice, chicken with cashew and chilli paste. The ‘regular’ portion was so generous I was quite surprised it was only priced at AED 30. I’d call that excellent value for real good food! Now I know, not everyone is a huge fan of chicken, so I did do my homework, and had a look at their menu again, and can tell you they do offer a lot more such as grilled beef salad, prawn purse, beef oyster, penang curry, fish in tamarind sauce, Pad Thai and what not! So I would strongly suggest, you have a look at their menu on http://www.thaiwok.ae and see what you think could tickle your taste buds. I should probably mention here too, that Thai Wok is not considered to be a proper dine-in restaurant, but is a very popular delivery option (not surprised why after tasting their food today) and also let you order your meal in advance. So say, you’re feeling super hungry after reading my review, you can already order your dinner by either going online or simply calling Thai Wok at 04 430 8119. I would strongly suggest you do try out Thai Wok at least once and then be the judge for yourselves. I personally had a very pleasant experience of enjoying a delicious meal from Thai Wok today, and am now all energised to begin round 2 of shopping! Thank you Thai Wok! 🙂
If you live in Dubai and are a dessert-freak like me,then have i got news for you!! There’s finally a proper dessert delivery place that has been launched in Dubai by the name of Sugar Moo. The Bakealogue was fortunate enough to be part of their soft launch which means i’ve already had a sneak peak and tasting session of their desserts (I love my job!!) and couldn’t wait to tell you guys about it coz man were they divine!!! But lets start from the beginning … when I first heard about Sugar Moo, my question was probably the same as what most of you are thinking right now – “Sugar Moo? What does that even mean!” – the explanation was pretty simple as Raki Phillips, co-founder of Sugar Moo, explained to me “The two most common ingredients used in making desserts are sugar and milk … put that together and what does that give you? Sugar Moo!” … And now we’re all probably going “Ahhhhh, creative!!!”. But their creativity doesn’t just stop at the name, as if you have a look at their menu their desserts aren’t the usual we’ve had time and again and pretty much bored of now to be honest! They have really thought out their desserts quite well, and come up with something completely new! While almost everything on their menu tastes incredibly delicious and different, but two desserts that deserve a special mention here are the “Twisted Apple Crumble Cheesecake” and “Seductive Cheesecake with a Surprise”. How was your mini-break then? Finally got time to have a proper catch up with my friends over coffee yesterday … as Dubai is overflowing with tourists these days we were avoiding the shopping mall at all costs and were on the lookout for a nice quiet place … so our choice of venue yesterday was Pantry Cafe located in Wasl Square, Dubai. As soon as I stepped inside, I knew it was totally my kind of place as I love cafe’s which have a lot of personality to it! We were greeted by friendly staff, and handed mini iPads as the menu (what a great idea in this fast-paced world!). Whether you choose to have breakfast, brunch, or just simple desserts, the Cafe has something for everyone. I went for the Apple Crumble dessert, which was quite good and not too sweet. But the part about the Cafe which I liked the most was the kitchen gift items on display. There were a lot of cute yet useful items to choose from such as baking sets, colourful mugs, and a lot more (refer to the shelves pic to see the variety!). The overall ambience was the biggest selling point for me, and though I only had dessert this time, would definitely be going back again to try out their breakfast! So if you happen to be in Dubai and are tired of meeting up in malls, then you might want to consider Pantry Cafe …

Whenever it comes to working on The Bake-a-logue, I always prefer a nice cosy cafe with a quiet corner, where I can plan out the blogs weekly activities . Well today, not only did I find the perfect cafe, but one that was full of inspiration as well. I’m referring to Book Munch – the first literary cafe in Dubai located on Wasl Square.
